Spirit's Capital Campaign turning this old nightclub into our Emergency Shelter has begun!
Please consider helping us:
"Transform the Shell into a Shelter."
Will YOU Join Us in Our Mission?
SPIRIT is at a very pivotal point in our growth providing homeless services in Santa Paula. Spring 2019, Naomi Pitcairn purchased an almost perfect building on 1498 E. Harvard Boulevard and donated it to SPIRIT! As you can imagine, we are thrilled and have jumped into this project with both feet. This new location has directed our homeless population away from the center of town and the business district, which is greatly appreciated by our Community.
PHASE 1 is complete, which included our Grant from the State of California CalRecycle to do FOOD RESCUE, funds our building's new commercial kitchen, food collection supplies and the purchase to two refrigerated trucks. This Program is one segment of a monumental effort, SB1383, by the State of California to reduce Greenhouse gases and reduce edible food from going into landfills. This FOOD RESCUE program allows SPIRIT to collect commercially prepared, unserved food from grocery stores, restaurants, schools, hospital, helping to feed food insecure, struggling people, homeless and housed. PHASE 1: Consists our new YEAR-ROUND HOMELESS SHELTER and our RESOURCE CENTER for our unsheltered homeless including meals, consulting for housing, healthcare, behavioral health, benefits, job opportunities and all the other needs people have.
PHASE 2: SPIRIT’s next huge challenge is our Remodeling improvements to our existing building and our ADDITION pictured above. Please see the area in BRIGHT BLUE (AREAS #1 & 7) shown above in Spirit’s Plan will be our ADDITION and Greenish area in the back of building, noted as Classrooms, will be showers and restrooms. Construction Documents for this work are complete and submitted to the City of Santa Paula for plan check.
We could sure use your help. We have started our Capital Campaign. Very aggressive, we know, but these funds will allow us to build the Addition and complete the needed changes to the existing building. We would be grateful to talk to you further so you can see our vision for Santa Paula.
